My "Must Have" Release Week Reads

My first three "Must Have" picks are part of a fabulous anthology with Jess Dee, Lexxie Couper, and Delilah Devlin. Trust me you DO NOT want to miss this RED HOT WEEKEND series.

Hidden Fire
Releases 1/31
Hidden FireDirty desires, dark secrets…deepest love

Fire, Book 2

Well, this is an unexpected twist. Jenna Brooks is all set to spend the weekend wallowing in misery, repairing the cracks in the façade she’s maintained for twelve years. Instead she’s…tied to a chair. Kidnapped by her own twin brother and her so-called best friend.

It’s for her own good, they say. She’ll thank them later, they say. But when they reveal her partner in captivity, she shores up her emotional barriers. It’s Garreth Halt. The one man for whom she let her guard down. What a fool she was.

For one electrifying moment, Garreth had Jenna naked in his arms, on the edge of losing her legendary control. Could have kept her there forever, too, if he hadn’t felt honor-bound to tell her the truth. Before she’d heard the whole truth, though, she’d retreated behind the fortress around her heart.

Now they’re knee to knee, with no escape. While he’s irritated he let his alleged best friend get the drop on him, a small part of him is thrilled. With one final chance to show her his love is real, Garreth methodically, wickedly, sets out to dismantle her defenses.

One dirty word at a time.

Product Warnings
Garreth may have charmed you in Winter Fire, but this time around, his blatantly sexy demands, even sexier actions and heartwarming love for his heroine are gonna make you fall head over heels.

Dare Me
Releases 1/31
Dare MeDefying death is the ultimate dare. Defying love? Well, that’s just stupid.

A Red Hot Weekend story.

Back-to-back medical degrees took Emily Knox right where she planned to be: treating patients in an alternative cancer clinic. But nothing prepared her for a cocky, cheeky Aussie who strode into her life and dared her to cure him. She told herself it was his challenge she couldn’t resist—not his daredevil charm.

Eight months later, Rob’s out of danger…and Emily’s in trouble. She’s in deep, too deep. Worse, Rob has left the clinic against doctor’s orders. There’s nothing for it but to follow him across eleven thousand miles of land and sea to give him what for—as his doctor, of course.

Rob never expected to survive the brain tumor. Nor did he expect to fall head over heels for his very proper, very English oncologist. The problem? Her Hippocratic Oath hangs between them, keeping her just out of reach. Now, with “cured” on his medical chart and his duty as best man for his best mate calling, he takes off for home to start getting his old life back.

Trouble is, while the good doctor cured his cancer, she seems to have inflicted him with something else—desire he just can’t shake.

Product Warnings
Rob Thorton is addictive. Also, there’s scorching passion, undeniable lust, soul-shattering desire, heartbreaking angst, explosive sex and of course, Australian sarcasm. Did you really expect anything else?

Lone Heart
Releases 1/31
Lone HeartWhen temptation catches fire, saddle up and hang on for the ride.

A Red Hot Weekend story

He’d like to have his own one-and-only, but he’s in no rush. Until he saunters into a small Oklahoma town and spots Charli Kudrow. One wary glance from her haunted eyes, and he knows there’s hidden fire inside her just waiting to erupt. And he’s ready to tear through every objection she can think up.

Charli intends to slip out of Shooters unnoticed as soon as she’s done pinning a help wanted notice to the bulletin board. But there’s a cowboy at the bar with a killer smile who seems hell-bent on seducing her. And she feels something she hasn’t felt in five long years of widowhood—a spark of attraction. Thinking she’ll never see him again, she succumbs to temptation, only to discover that little “spark” is more like a raging wildfire.

One weekend is all he asks. One weekend to prove there’s more between them than just blazing hot sex…

Product Warnings

After their first night together she asks him to train her to submit and he refuses, afraid to mix business with pleasure. But Jessica isn’t deterred. Product warning
The world’s first m/f/m/f/m/f/m/m/f…we think. You never know exactly what’s going to happen next when the crew gets back together, but it’s guaranteed to be steamy.

With a warning like this how could you not run out and grab Jayne Rylon's newest addition to the Powertools Series.  I say lets hammer away and get some grinding done! I'm a huge Jayne Rylon fan with Kate's Crew (book#1) being one of my first reads by her, even though this is the fourth book in the series it has not let me down in any way. She keeps the men playful and hard working with women who are thankful for their handyman skills.

So far in the series the crew has been paired off in couples-Kate and Mike, Kayla and Dave, Morgan and Joe and James and Neil-but things are getting busier and an extra hand is needed on the crew. So all the men have decided it's time to include a new man but wow were they surprised that their new crew man, Devon, was a smoking hot woman.

Add a woman into the mix of this crew and you are sure to have one blistering hot read. Watch your fingertips ladies, you will be turning these pages so fast to see what's next your E-reader may start to smoke. You will also be very happy to hear there are two more installments on the way. So get your honey-do list together for the crew.

Laura Hunsaker

You may have missed it, but we didn't!!

On Monday Jan. 23rd, Dennie (LolaLovesBooks) closed up work early and headed over to author Laura Hunsaker's book signing at Paseo Verde Library in Henderson, NV.

Below are just a few pics from the signing, if you weren't able to make it or don't live in the area remember you still have the opportunity to get her signature through Kindlegraph.

Heather Lire - TheBookReadingGals.com

Denise (LolaLovesBooks)

I've been looking forward to Laura Hunsaker's signing since she first mentioned it. Let me start by saying Monday was a CRAZY workday, but as Dawn stated above, I worked like a crazed woman so I could make it in time. I could have taken more photos to share with all of you, though I fear fellow library-goers--even Laura--might have thought I was a stalker or something...so these few pics will have to suffice :)

I walked through the entrance and was so happy to see her table was front and center. Copies of Highland Destiny were neatly arranged, shiny new covers tempting patrons as they walked in. I chatted with Laura and Heather (pictured above) for a quite a while. That afternoon the library was teeming with people but the funny thing was they were mostly men--even so, though--a few stopped by her table for a quick chat!

I happen to be one of those patrons that the shiny cover was calling out to. I was already the proud owner of a Kindle version of Highland Destiny (complete with my first ever Kindlegraph!) but how could I resist the half-clad Scotsman, Connor MacRae, just willing me to own it in print--I just HAD to have a tangible book autographed. I talk a lot, so we sat there well past the end of signing, but we had a great conversation. All-in-all, it was awesome and I wish all her fans could have been there to show their support, get an autograph, and get to see what a talented and wonderful woman she is!

This is book #2 in the Fire series and it picks up just a few weeks after the last one ends. Rachel and Jackson are a couple but Garret has lost any chance he may have had with Jenna...or so he thought. Rachel being the ever-so-wonderful friend doesn't want to see her best friend give up on an amazing guy just because he...(well, I can't tell you what he did-you have to read it) let's just say he stepped over a line to help a friend.

Both Rachel and Jackson know what they have to do so the kidnap both Garreth and Jenna and tie then in a room together until they can work things out... one way or another. Things can get very heated when in a locked room, especially when you have a devious guy like Garreth around. Garreth knows how he feels and is tired of hiding it but he knows that nothing can come of this unless Jenna is willing to take a leap of faith for him.

Both characters have such great chemistry; they fight, they love, and they fight so more...to say they have a firey relationship is putting it lightly. This series was properly named for sure "Fire" '
cause the minute you start reading you are fired either from the heated fights or the smoking hot words and actions. Jess Dee has hooked me again with
another series, I can't wait for more.

Jess Dee - Winter Fire

If your looking for something to keep you warm
in this (Red Hot) Winter this is your book!

Winter FireThere’s never been any question in Rachel Ashberg’s mind. Jackson Brooks is the one, and they both know it. The problem? Thanks to his unbreakable rule—never date his twin sister’s friends—he’s completely off-limits. Even if they can’t imagine being with anyone else.

It’s been over two years since their last encounter, when they gave in—just once—to their passion. Now, as the Brooks twins’ milestone birthday approaches, Rachel and Jackson are about to meet again at a gorgeous mountain resort. Needing something to take the edge off the desire that has never faded, she indulges in a fling with sexy stranger Garreth Halt. He even makes her forget Jackson for a while. Or…maybe not.

When she mentions Jackson’s name in passing, Garreth picks up on all the hidden undertones in her voice. And he brings Jackson into their bed, if only in a fantasy they play out together. Funny thing about Garreth’s fantasies, though. Even the most improbable, impossible ones have a way of becoming reality…

Warning: Enough heat is contained within these pages that you won’t even notice the winter cold. You might fall in love with Jackson—the real-life hero, determined to protect his sister from further pain—but it’s the handsome stranger, Garreth, who’ll take your breath away.

Review ~

Did you ever have dating rules with your family or friends? Well the Brooks twins do... They are not allowed to date each others friends no matter what. For twelve years, Jackson Brooks has kept this promise to his sister but now on their 30th birthday, he can't deny his feelings for his sister's best friend Rachel any longer.

Garrett Halt, a handsome Canadian journalist, sees Rachel and instantly thinks she will be fun to help kill his time and she is all too willing to use his magnificent body to curb her want for Jackson. Garrett has a lot more hopes in mind for Rachel...and Jackson.

When I started this story I thought it was going one way...then it turned another and it was fantastic! Another absolutely Dee-lisious book by Jess Dee! I love Jess Dee's characters she - puts so much into them in such a short story -I fell for Garrett immediately! The story between Jackson and Rachel is sad but has a lovely ending. This is only one novella in a terrific Anthology with two other amazing authors -

AND did you know that each author has a 2nd book coming out? Yep and they will be available from Samhain Publishing on January 31, 2012. So pick them up and get ready for a Red Hot Weekend.

Stop by tomorrow for my review of Jess Dee's book2 Hidden Fire.

None hold his attention—until he catches Meg’s flirtatious glance across the bar. One drink later, he’s sure he’s found the one woman who can stimulate both his heads.

Darker After Midnight
Release 1/24
Darker After Midnight (Midnight Breed, #10)In the dark of night, a blood war escalates within the hidden world of the Breed. It falls to the Order—a cadre of Breed warriors pledged to protect their own and humankind alike—to stop Dragos, the power-mad vampire at the center of the conflict, before his push for domination can explode into catastrophe.

At the center of the Order’s quest is Sterling Chase, once a morally rigid enforcer of Breed law, now a warrior fallen from grace, whose biggest battle is the one he wages against his own savage nature. With addiction beckoning him toward eternal darkness, Chase’s path to redemption has never seemed more out of reach. But when his eyes meet those of Tavia Fairchild, a beautiful witness who identifies him at the scene of a mission gone terribly wrong, Chase finds himself drawn to the woman—and convinced she is something much more than she seems.

Pulled into a vortex of intrigue and danger she can neither resist nor understand, Tavia is uncertain whom to trust. And while everything sane and logical warns her against getting close to Chase, she cannot deny that the handsome, deeply haunted male stirs something primal and ravenous within her. But even as she surrenders to her cravings, nothing can prepare her for the shattering truth of who—and what—she truly is.

As the Order’s enemy mobilizes for the battle of the ages, Dragos and his Minions unleashing a hell on Earth like nothing ever seen before, Chase and Tavia are thrust into the heart of the violence. Elizabeth Kyne

Author Elizabeth Kyne contemplates the impossible

If Wishes Were Husbands
If you were to invent for yourself the perfect man, what qualities would you give him?

He’d have to be good looking, for certain. The sex would have to be pretty good too. It would be really handy if he did all the cleaning, the washing, the ironing, the shopping and cooked fantastic meals every night. And what else shall we give our perfect man? For me, as a rather short woman, I wouldn’t want my man to be too tall (I’ve hugged tall men in the past and it seems to involve getting intimately acquainted with their navel, which is a bit awkward). You, on the other hand, might require other criteria, such as, he likes dogs or is good at gardening.

This is all a fantasy, you might think. There is no such thing as a “perfect man”. There may be men out there who have amazing characteristics who, for example, really are fantastic in bed; or really do look after the housework, but they will also have faults. They might be chubby and out of condition, or they might insist on farting loudly during your favourite TV programme. Whatever their attributes and their less attractive qualities, they are still human – like we all are. There can never be a man who can tick all the boxes, even if dating agencies offer to find you a partner who literally does exactly that.

But stop and think for a moment about what would happen if the “perfect man” really did exist. That you could pick him up off the shelf just as you might a breakfast cereal? Instead of requiring a package fortified with vitamins and high fibre, you might chose “has a fantastic body and is happy to do the ironing”. If that were truly possible, wouldn’t life be a little bit dull?

This might sound ridiculous to most women who have frustrations about their man, but take a moment to think about it. Isn’t a relationship about more than finding the perfect husband? You may wish he would pull his finger out every now and again and do the hoovering, but isn’t a relationship about the coming together of two people, the learning to deal with one another’s foibles and exploring their personalities? He may annoy you one day by farting in the middle of Strictly Come Dancing, but the next he might surprise you by demonstrating a knowledge of Lauren Bacall movies. It’s the give and take of getting to know a person and of building a life together.

I think this is the lesson learned by Rachel in my novel If Wishes Were Husbands. Not that I set out for her to learn a lesson, I just set out to tell a fun story. She is a single woman who has got to a stage in her life where being un-married and un-attached is unusual and so, to appear to be more normal, she makes up a story about having a husband. Because he doesn’t exist, she’s free to invent everything about him. She boasts about his skill in bed, his eagerness to do the housework and his fabulous cooking. Her story takes on such a life of its own that so does her husband – and appears one day in the flesh on her sofa.

Suddenly, she is faced with living with this “perfect man”. That’s when the fun begins. Well, it’s fun for the reader, it’s not so much fun for poor old Rachel who has to put up with him. As she says in the book, it’s wonderful at first to have a man who cooks gourmet meals for her when she comes home from work then makes love to her three times a night – but sometimes she just wants a sandwich and some sleep!

We’re not made perfect, and we’re not made to find the perfect match. A man is not a box of breakfast cereal, even if sometimes we might wish he were. The fun comes in the discovery and the melding of two personalities. Otherwise, we might as well employ a house full of staff to do all those things we would like to be done. We could tick all the boxes of getting the ironing and the gardening done – even the sex! – and it might be fun for a while, but at the end of the day wouldn’t you rather share your life with someone than be their employer? I know I would – well, I would most of the time.

Rachel re-invents herself when she moves back to her home town of Aylesbury; with a new job, a new house and a new haircut. But people’s eyes glaze over when she tells them about her life as a forty-something singleton who works in accounts. So why not spice things up a bit? Why not tell her new hairdresser and her new friends about her fantastic husband? Everyone wants to hear about Darren, the man who cooks her amazing meals, cleans the house and takes her to bed for orgasmic sex three times a night! What a shame he doesn't exist…

…Until she comes home one night and finds Darren sitting in her lounge. And everything she said becomes true: from his sensuous food to his skill in bed. So real, that she believes it.

Not as if living with a perfect is man is… well, perfect…

She can’t find anything because every time she puts something down, he tidies it away. Then there’s the shock of the credit card bill from buying all that gourmet food. Not to mention the sex! Three times a night is great at first, but sometimes all she wants at the end of the day is a sandwich and some sleep.

Then Rachel decides that Darren has to go - and that’s when her troubles really begin.

Elizabeth Kyne takes the absurdities of the modern woman's quest for love and turns them into an enjoyable romp. She finds the comic in everyday situations, from buying a dress to experimenting with hair dye at home. While, underneath, she comments on the pressure to find the perfect husband and how that quest is doomed for us all.

Elizabeth Kyne

Elizabeth Kyne trained to be a radio journalist and spent her early working years reading news bulletins and writing for magazines. Later, after learning the meaning of “mortgage” and “gas bill”, she decided to do the sensible thing and drop the freelance lifestyle to get a proper job. The job, however, all went horribly wrong and she returned to her first love of writing, and worked on several novels before finding success with “If Wishes Were Husbands”.
